Terms of Service

These terms explain what you can expect from Guard and what we expect from you. Please read them before using the service.

Last updated: August 25, 2026

1. Agreement to these terms

Guard ("Guard", "we", "us") provides a password manager consisting of the guardpin.com website, the Guard desktop application, and the optional encrypted cloud sync service (together, the "Service").

By creating an account, checking the acceptance box, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old and able to enter into a binding contract to use Guard. If you use Guard on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for it.

3. Your account

Accounts are anonymous. When you sign up you are given a randomly generated account number and you choose a password. We do not ask for your name, email address, or any other identifying detail.

Your account number and password are the only way to sign in. We store only a one-way hash of your password, so we cannot see it, and we cannot recover or reset either credential. If you lose them, the account cannot be restored. You are responsible for keeping them safe and for everything that happens under your account.

We may suspend or close accounts that are used to break these terms or the law.

4. Your master password, PIN, and recovery phrase

Guard is a zero-knowledge service. Your vault is encrypted on your device before it ever reaches us, using keys derived from your master password, PIN, and recovery phrase. We never receive those secrets.

This is the most important thing to understand about Guard:

  • If you lose your master password and your recovery phrase, nobody — including us — can decrypt or restore your vault.
  • We cannot reset your master password, recover your PIN, or unlock your data for you, no matter the circumstances.
  • You are responsible for storing your recovery phrase somewhere safe and offline.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use Guard for anything illegal, or to store data you have no right to hold.
  • Attempt to break, probe, overload, or reverse engineer the Service, except where that right cannot be excluded by law.
  • Access another person's account or data without permission.
  • Resell or redistribute the Service without our written permission.

6. The desktop app is required

Vaults are created, unlocked, and edited only in the Guard desktop application. The website is for managing your account, subscription, and downloads — it cannot decrypt your vault and does not ask for your master password.

The desktop app updates itself automatically so you receive security fixes. We may end support for older versions of the app or for operating systems that no longer receive security updates.

7. Plans, billing, and refunds

Guard offers a free plan and paid subscription plans. Paid plans are billed in advance through our payment provider, Polar, which acts as the merchant of record and handles payment details — we never see your card number.

Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your account dashboard; your plan stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for. Fees already paid are non-refundable except where required by law or where we say otherwise in writing.

We may change prices with reasonable notice. Price changes take effect at your next renewal.

8. Cloud sync and storage limits

Cloud sync stores only encrypted data. Your plan sets the storage and file limits that apply to your account, and we may enforce fair-use limits to keep the Service running well for everyone.

You are responsible for keeping your own backups. We do our best to keep your encrypted data safe, but Guard is not a backup service.

9. Service availability

We aim to keep Guard available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may change, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service, and will give reasonable notice before removing something you rely on where we can.

Because your vault is stored locally on your device, the desktop app keeps working for your existing data even when our servers are unreachable.

10. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law.

To the extent permitted by law, Guard is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or the loss of a vault you can no longer decrypt. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

11. Termination

You can stop using Guard and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you break these terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service.

When an account is deleted, we delete the encrypted data associated with it as described in the Privacy Policy.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is material, we will ask you to review and accept the new version before you continue using your account dashboard, and we will update the date at the top of this page.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The courts located in California will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except where the law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.
